Trial development of vacuum deposition equipment and peripheral equipment for
6.5m primary mirror at the University of Tokyo Atacama Observatory (TAO)
The TAO project is a plan to construct the world's highest level infrared telescope with a diameter of 6.5 m on the summit of Chanantor in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. We have developed the vapor deposition equipment for the reflector used in this telescope and various equipment necessary for the vapor deposition work. The photo below is the cleaning equipment completed this time. This equipment can remove old coatings that have already been deposited, clean the mirror surface, and then dry it when recoating the mirror. |
